How to translate a sketch into a mass producible product with unique lighting performance?


This needs some extra explanation. The first briefing from Fatboy was to develop the Edison the Petit for annual quantities of 5K pieces. So we chose rotational molding as production technique for the housing resulting in low investment and nice mono shape possibilities. The moment Fatboy presented the Edison the Petit on the Maison et Objet fair, the sales prognoses was immediately updated to 50-100K annually. A huge success from the first moment on! Production wise we had a new challenge: rotational molding is absolutely not suited for these big numbers. So the second briefing was to design Edison the Petit 2.0, that looks the same as 1.0, but is suited for production volumes of 100K+ annually.


The combination of a special light guide with sophisticated switch mechanism and smart configuration of housing parts results in a seamless lamp. Its invitingly smooth, or even cuddly, appearance was embraced by the market and consumers.

The uniquely wireless Edison the Petit is portable, rechargeable and ready to use wherever you want – indoors, outdoors, at home or at the office.  Edison the Petit is the mobile nightlight you always wanted. It is the perfect addition for you balcony if you are looking to add a little romance or a handy light for your desk. The LED technology lights up the little lamp from head to toe in three different settings, low, medium and high, for up to 8 hours on the highest setting before it needs to be recharged.
